Mojito Martini
Tuesday, April 03, 2007
I recently tried a Mojito for the first time and enjoyed it so much that I decided to experiment with some of the variations too. It seems like the easiest way to add different flavors to a mojito is to use flavored rums. If you looked at only the Bacardi Rums, you'd still have lots of options. There's Limon, Razz, Bacardi O, Bacardi 8, Grand Melon, Big Apple and I think there's a couple more too.
I'm sure using any of those would taste great but I didn't want to spend all that money on all of those flavored rums. No, I'd have to limit myself to just one and I chose Bacardi Limon. Everyone likes lemony flavored alcohol so it made sense.
And I also decided to go the martini route. It seems like martinis are made from just about anything now a days. So why not a Mojito Martini?
Mix the following in a half filled shaker of crushed ice:
1.5 measures Bacardi Limon
0.5 measure Absolute Citron
1/2 of a Lime, sliced
8 Mint Leaves
Shake well and pour into a chilled martini glass.
Now that's a refreshing martini. I'd add a splash of Grand Mariner for a Grand Mojito Martini but I'm I'm too busy enjoying it as is.

Saketini
Monday, March 19, 2007
If a sake bomb is a little too lowbrow for you, then how about a saketini? Bartenders are making Tini drinks out of everything now a days, so why not sake? If the sake is dry, then it will act like vermouth in your martini.
Saketini Recipe
Add the following to a cocktail shaker:
2 ounces sake
1 ounce vodka
Ice
Shake well and strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with a cucumber slice
You can also make a saketini using gin and olives but I prefer the vodka saketini. Try them both and see which one you prefer.

Rose's Cocktail Infusions
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
If you're the type of person who wants a good drink but doesn't remember to keep your bar stocked, then you should pick up some of Rose's Cocktail Infusions.
These flavored martini mixers are perfect if you want to serve up bar quality drinks at home with very little work. The directions say mix 1 part Rose's with 1 part vodka. Couldn't get easier than that.
But you're probably wondering how it tastes. So far I've tried the
Cranberry Twist Mix and the Sour Apple Mix and they really aren't bad. The Cranberry Twist tastes like a very sweet Cosmo. The Sour Apple isn't as tart I was expecting but it still has a nice but subtle flavor.
Rose's also makes Blue Raspberry Mix, Watermelon Mix, Mango Twist Mix and Pomegranate Twist Mix.
If you're a just starting out as a Home Mixologist, then Rose's may be what you're looking for.
