Heineken and Carlsberg Trying To Buy Rival

Beer mergers all too often end in a headache. But that hasn't deterred Heineken and Carlsberg from clubbing together to plan a cash bid for their U.K. rival, Scottish & Newcastle. Though the Danish and Dutch brewers each have strategic reasons to pursue S&N, a deal won't be easy -- and it certainly won't be cheap. Since March, the shares have risen 20% as a result of persistent bid froth.
